Make your meals colorful. You should be eating more fresh fruits and vegetables than anything else. Yellow peppers, red tomatoes, purple eggplant and green zucchini. Contrast that with bland looking foods like potatoes and bread and you can see the point. The more colorful the food, the more nutrition it has in it. Think about it. Sweet potatoes are orange and packed with nutrients. White potatoes, by contrast, offer little in the way of nutrition. Many dieters have some vitamin deficiency so it is important to talk to a doctor before starting any weight loss program.

Keep a diary of what you eat and weigh. A lot of times, people have no idea how much the eat throughout the day. We are a country of grazers. Throughout the day we munch on this and that and then at the end of the week we have not lost any weight and we wonder why. Keeping a diary of what you eat and drink during the day may help keep you faithful to your weight loss program.

Work out on a regular basis. Physical exercise is important for your health in general. It is also an important part of any weight loss program. The best thing would be one hour of moderate or high intensity exercise every day but that is not always possible for everyone. Work movement into your day-to-day life. Take the stairs rather than the elevator. Walk as much as you can. If you live in a city, walk to work rather than drive. Walking your dog is exercise. Go dancing. There are easy ways to get movement into your life. When you are keeping your food diary, you can add your exercise to the diary. Also there are a number of apps that will track your steps for the day or you can get a Fitbit.

Watch what you drink. People often do not think about what they drink throughout the day. That sugary coffee drink you have every day at Starbucks is full of fat and calories. Watch the soda, smoothies and definitely alcohol. A better option is water. You can buy flavor syrups that do not have any calories to add flavor to your water if you want to. Often people get dehydrated and they mistake that feeling for hunger. One way to prevent eating when you are really thirsty is to stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day. Drinking water can also help your weight loss program because your body will work better when it is hydrated.

Watch your portions. It is easy to eat more than you mean to by not paying attention to your portions. Use measuring cups to get right amount of food. When you eat out, it is often helpful to take half in a to go container so that you do not eat all of it.

Weight loss is hard. This is why so many people go to weight loss clinics. The good news is that with persistence and work, you can lose the weight. This will reduce the chances that you develop cardiovascular disease and even cancer. Studies show that low calorie diets are very good for you and will extend your life. Be good to yourself as you try to lose weight, that will make the process easier.
